I sincerely apologize that I took a few weeks off of publishing this free newsletter of job listings that I’ve so enjoyed doing for the past two and a half years. I’ve been having a hard time deciding if I should share the reason why. Today I will, because it doesn’t feel good to sit here saying nothing: someone I know ripped off the Creative Jobs name and format, and then blocked me on Facebook when I called them on it.
Creative Jobs isn’t an imaginative name, it’s just a functional one. It’s too generic to fight for in court. If I had come up with something like Kleenex or Xerox, I could apply for a trademark.
After seeking legal advice, I’ve concluded there isn’t much I can do except stand up for myself in this space by writing the Plagiarizing “Journalist” (who I’ll refer to as PJ for short) a letter that I won’t send directly to her.
Dear PJ,
It’s appalling that you would take my Creative Jobs name and format, start a paid-only Substack and then block me on Facebook when I called it out! I posted my newsletter in your Facebook job listings group almost every week for two and a half years, and you thanked me many times for doing it, so you know that this was the name I’d been using.
I said I was leaving your group, which I had previously offered to help you admin when you were threatening to delete it and disconnect over 5000 people. You said that you didn’t take the name and to “do what you want,” and then blocked me. I later discovered your public history of grifting that’s been documented on several credible websites.
You’re a huge personal disappointment. You have created a pale imitation of this project that has caused me to lose paying subscribers. I am sorry I ever tried to help you.
From,
Tamara
ANYWAY THO. I’ll endeavor to return to my regular consistency and hope that I can quickly find leads that help you or your network find work that they love. I’m sure I’ll regain my enjoyment for spreading this positive energy and usefulness now that I have gotten this off of my chest.
And now, the job listings! That’s what we are here to share. Please forward to anyone who could use them, or who can empathize with this stupid situation.
